Valentines’ Day on Pinterest

February 13, 2013

After overcoming the debacle last year,
Craig and the team at Pinterest have created
a wonderful Social Media tool
and a total wicked place to hang out!

Here are a few boards that I discovered for ideas
this Valentines’ Day:

More DIY Valentines’ Ideas – Yippee! – Plus a True Story About St Valentine

February 8, 2013

Would you like more DIY Valentines’ Day ideas?

Sure!

Here at the Purple Paper House
we don’t actually celebrate Valentines’ Day.

however

we do LOVE the
true nature
of the day.

Valentines’ Day is a commemoration of
a priest in Ancient Rome
– yep he was called Valentine –
who ignored a decree from the Caesar
that soldiers were not allowed to be married.

The belief was,
that married Centurions
would not concentrate in battle
as they would be dreaming of their wives back home.

True stuff!

So, common soldiers were banned from getting married.

Now Valentine,
a true romantic,
thought that this was poppy-cock.
So he ignored the law
and married soldiers and their lovely ladies
in secret.

He obviously got busted,
was executed
and was eventually Sainted for his troubles.

So . . . . . . . .

. . . . what is the moral of my musings?

Well, Valentines’ Day is  actually a celebration of
married couples.

So I hope to inspire all those married couples to celebrate their
decision to become married
and their
commitment to each other.

Happy Valentines’ Day

Altered Origami Flower Ball

July 17, 2012

I was mucking around with some old book pages last Friday, as I was trying to create a ‘fuller’ flower on a new origami flower ball I was making.

I didn’t want to add another element like ribbon/beads/etc, so I thought about how I could change the folding pattern to make the flowers look different.

This is what I came up with. You like?

Altered Origami Paper Flower

Have you ever altered the basic pattern of this cool origami flower ball?
Let me know.

I have also been doing quite a bit of scrapbooking – photos later!
However, what I CAN show you photos of is . . .

. . . . the fireplace I am slowly repointing (‘before’ photos)
