More DIY Valentines’ Ideas – Yippee! – Plus a True Story About St Valentine

February 8, 2013

Would you like more DIY Valentines’ Day ideas?

Sure!

Here at the Purple Paper House
we don’t actually celebrate Valentines’ Day.

however

we do LOVE the
true nature
of the day.

Valentines’ Day is a commemoration of
a priest in Ancient Rome
– yep he was called Valentine –
who ignored a decree from the Caesar
that soldiers were not allowed to be married.

The belief was,
that married Centurions
would not concentrate in battle
as they would be dreaming of their wives back home.

True stuff!

So, common soldiers were banned from getting married.

Now Valentine,
a true romantic,
thought that this was poppy-cock.
So he ignored the law
and married soldiers and their lovely ladies
in secret.

He obviously got busted,
was executed
and was eventually Sainted for his troubles.

So . . . . . . . .

. . . . what is the moral of my musings?

Well, Valentines’ Day is  actually a celebration of
married couples.

So I hope to inspire all those married couples to celebrate their
decision to become married
and their
commitment to each other.

Happy Valentines’ Day

Today’s Creation – you’re gonna hate me!

May 26, 2012

Today’s creative outlet was purely edible.
In fact it was scrum-diddly-umptious.

Chicken Risotto

I had the most unbelievable hankering for risotto tonight.

I’m pretty sure I’ve never made risotto before,
but I’ve seen it made so many times on tv that I know it’s not hard.

The most difficult part of risotto seems to be standing there
waiting for it to reduce – not a stretch with a wine in your hand (which I didn’t – sigh!).

I know the photo isn’t very flattering, but . . . yummmmmmmmmm

  1. Butter – melt in frypan
  2. Cut up some veges (mushies & green beans) and throw in butter
  3. Fry for three minutes
  4. Thrown in 2 cups of medium grain rice (arborio) & stir
  5. Throw in some cooked chicken (from last night)
  6. Add 1 litre of vege stock 1/2 cup at a time
  7. Ta daah!

Good aren’t I?
(JAM)

A boo boo – just for a change

April 6, 2012

I know you won’t believe this – but I made a mistake.
I know, right!!!

Although I sourced the totally deliciously looking Oreo Bunny Truffles
from Key Lime, the original idea and post
came from Jesseca at One Sweet Appetitte.

And . . . .

. . . . instead of chucking a tanty – she just pinged me.

So, I have changed the link on the original post,
however I have obviously linked you up in this one too.

Have fun cooking and creating on Saturday everyone,
ready for a scrummy Sunday!

Yum

Happy Easter

Easter Craft #2 – Some inspiration

April 5, 2012

Well

Here is my completed wreath for you.
I added some succulents to finish it off.

I’m fairly pleased with how it turned out.

However, as my wreath had nothing yummy attached to it, I thought it appropriate to link some love that included delicious treats.
